Brandon Bessey

"Al Asaad" ("The Lion") Original Oil - By Brandon Bessey
Auctioned live as part of the "60's Revisited" Dinner, Dance, & Art Auction
Proudly owned by Carol Steppe of Danville, CA.

Brandon Bessey has a distinct advantage when it comes to portraying horses – he grew up surrounded by the family’s Arabians and began sketching the mares and foals from life at an early age. Success soon followed, as he won his first art competition at the tender age of five with a painting of a bay horse. Growing up in the San Joaquin Valley of California, Brandon had a love for all living things, and pursued a multitude of animal projects in both 4-H and FFA. Continuing to follow his passion for art he perfected his painting skills at both Pepperdine University and the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.

Brandon works exclusively in oils and Arabian horses, as well as other wildlife, are his best-loved subjects. He especially enjoys portraying the relationships between animals, echoing his early memories of the loving bonds he observed between mares and foals. Brandon has also had experience working as a halter trainer for Arabians, which grants him a rare insight into their behavior and range of character. This intimate perspective is clearly evident in his work, with its eloquent portrayal of equine expressions.

As his art became more widely recognized, Brandon moved to Santa Ynez, California, where he lives and paints today. A Mecca of Arabian horse breeding in the United States, this beautiful valley provides an endless source of inspiration for his work, both for its dramatic natural surroundings as well as the many lovely Arabian horses which reside there.
