"Special Delivery for Abbas Pasha" Original Oil - By Sue Deutscher
Auctioned as part of the Showcase Art Auction at the 2005 Egyptian Event.

Like most horse lovers, my first word was ‘horse’. My heart raced at the sight of them and my feet danced at the thought of riding one. When I was barely old enough to talk, I got my first pony ride and when I discovered that I could drag a crayon across a wall and leave a mark, I knew that I was an artist. I would combine those two obsessions.
When I was in second grade, everyone made pictures of Santa Claus and I made him pigeon toed. The whole class laughed at me. I won a blue ribbon when I was 12 years old on a mare I trained myself and I got my picture in the paper. I was commissioned to paint Gondolier. That was much later, of course. I won second place in a national art show and third place in a Colorado state show. A couple of years ago, Paul Husband bought my oil portrait of Khemosabi on eBay. It was one of the greatest thrills I’ve ever known.

I don’t have a degree in art, but I’ve studied it plenty. I’m not a veterinarian, but I’ve studied a lot of equine anatomy. I practically lived with the herd during the summer months growing up, watching them, becoming one of them amongst the oak trees in the woods. A few times a week, I took lessons from Raff-Kerr AHCR5965. He was my Bucephalus. Marty and Doug Wernick, if you are reading this, thank you.
I’ve owned horses off and on throughout my life. My best friend was Khemi. Together, we explored the Cleveland National Forest nearly every morning for five years.

So that about sums up my biography as it relates to horses and art. It is an honor for me to show you my art and donate a painting that will help Egyptian Arabians. There is no finer creature on Earth. I’m 52, have dragged the paintbrush across the canvas for nearly 30 years, and I’m still learning to paint them.
