"Speaking of
how Arabian horses inspire me is like trying to describe my deepest
love and passion," states artist Shary Akers. "The Arabian
horse is truly one of God's greatest artistic gifts of beauty and
grace. I started my artistic endeavors at an early age.
My mother, an art teacher, kidded me, saying that as a child, I
could always be found behind curtains with my crayons, drawing
horses on the wall. Horses were, and always have been, my
first and everlasting love." Akers owned, bred and showed
Arabian horses for many years.
Oil painting
and bronze sculpture have an equal hold on Akers, as one artistic
form of expression improves the other. Her knowledge of
anatomy gained from doing three-dimensional work aides her
two-dimensional work, just as the knowledge of beautiful line and
form exemplified in her drawings and paintings betters her
three-dimensional creations.
Akers' gorgeous
watercolors on bark paper, where she brings out the ethereal images
of horses she finds in the papers natural lines, shapes, andshades,
are unique treatments of her favorite subject. She exhibits at
major horse shows aroundthe country and has participated
successfully in the American Academy of Equine Artists juried
exhibits. Her collections of artwork in various media are in
homes throughout the world.
