A GREAT 2007 AND BIG PLANS FOR ROCKIN' HEART RANCH IN 2008
R
ockin' Heart Ranch, owned and operated by Loren and Nancy Wight in Potlatch, Idaho, had the pleasure of hosting Liz Salmon this past November. Liz came to review their lovely stallion HS Infinite (Simeon Sadik x HS Infanta) who was imported from the Halsdon Stud in England. Liz absolutely loved him and was very impressed with, not only HS Infinite and his extreme beauty, type, size and lovely movement, but she commented that all of his first foal crop were outstanding in every way. Loren and Nancy plan  to take HS Infinite and two of his fillies to Las Vegas this year and have the very talented European handler Johanna Ulstom show him for them. They also hope to bring him to the Egyptian Event this summer.

In September, Sport Horse Nationals will again be held in Southern Idaho and they hope to bring both HS Infinite and their senior stallion RHR Safar (Thee Desperado x Chelima). RHR Safar is currently being ridden in dressage by Nancy and is really impressing their trainer with his lovely balance and freedom of motion as well as his kind demeanor and big hearted love of work. They hope to bring him to the Egyptian Event as well this year.

Loren and Nancy are very excited to have a wonderful new crop of foals by HS Infinite in 2008. They are expecting two foals by him this year. One from the lovely Chelima (Haziz Halim x Chelsea HF) and another out of the beautiful Bin Knazeera (Imperial Al Kamar x Knazeera).

THEE DESPERADO SON EXPORTED TO SAUDI ARABIA
Congratulations to Naem Al Jahaini and the King Abdul Aziz Arabian Horse Center of Saudi Arabia on the recent purchas and exportation of the handsome stallion MS Marsali (Thee Desperado x La Marsala). Marsali, bred by Tom and Martha Salome, is a bay full younger brother to Arabians Ltd. junior sire The Sequel RCA. Bruce McCrea, manager of the breeding operations of the Center, chose Marsali to breed non-Egyptian mares and bring to them the type and beauty contained in his tight pedigree. McCray had admired The Sequel RCA for some time and decided to purchase his younger brother, who also possesses a typey Arabian face and powerful movement like Sequel's. While stateside, Marsali was shown by Michael Byatt, winning a Reserve Champion Futurity title at the Egyptian Event and by Arabians Ltd. Trainer Luis Paniagua, who led him to a Grand Champion Stallion title at the Glenrose Show in Texas. We can't wait to see Marsali's foals next year!

Whitehaven Plantation Welcomes Marie Morrison to their Teaching Staff
Whitehaven Plantation is pleased to announce the addition of Marie Morrison to their teaching and training staff. Marie comes to Whitehaven with more than 40 years of equestrian experience. She grew up in South Carolina and has lived and ridden in New York, Maryland and Virginia. Marie’s experience includes riding, training, teaching and stable management in both Western and English disciplines. She has worked with ponies, Arabians, Quarter Horses, Thoroughbred and Appaloosas in a variety of positions from groom to barn manager, horse trainer/schooler and instructor at breeding, racing and show facilities.

Marie’s teaching philosophy is that a rider should also be a horseman or woman and teaches horsemanship to familiarize students with day-to-day horse care: grooming, tacking, feeding, first-aid, etc. Beginners are required to learn the basics and start with balanced seat, then move up to hunter seat or more advanced dressage. Advanced students can take horsemanship lessons as well. These are usually integrated into the rider’s existing lesson plan. A wide variety of exercises and training on and off the longe line keep the lessons fresh and challenging. Occasionally, Marie will bring capable students out of the arena and on to trails for a break for both horse and rider. For students who wish to participate, plans are being made to sponsor fun and more serious shows, summer day camps and gymkhanas. Adult and children are both welcome.

Marie can be reached at marie_legrand_morrison@yahoo.com, or at (803) 273-0053. For more information please visit Whitehaven’s website at www.whitehavenplantion.com.

THEE MACADE WINS THE AHA REGION 12 - 55 MILE ENDURANCE CHAMPIONSHIP RACE
Thee MaCade (Thee Desperado x Masira), a straight Egyptian bred Arabian owned by Dr. Matthew & Wendy Roberts of Maidenchase Arabians in McDonald, TN, begins his third year in endurance with a very impressive start claiming the AHA Regional 12-55 Mile Endurance Championship title.

On Sunday, March 16, 2008 the Region 12-55 Mile Endurance Championship race was held in conjunction with the Sand Hill's Stampede 55 Mile Endurance Race in Patrick, SC. After heavy thunderstorms Saturday night, race day was a beautiful 60+- degree sunny day made for racing. The race started at 7:00 a.m. with a controlled start until daylight. The first loop was 23 miles with sandy roads and trails - needless to say we did not lope along at a leisurely pace. We galloped and I mean galloped the entire distance coming into the first vet check in 2 hours. The second loop was 17 miles and the sand was a little deeper so we slowed our pace in those areas. We came into the vet check in 1 hour and 45 minutes. The last loop was 16 miles and had some deep sandy climbs. After winding through the woods and down roads about 5 to 7 miles from the finish, Kathy Neunzig of Dallas, NC came up behind me. We continued to ride together towards the finish and had a very exciting run off for the win with a finishing time of 5 hours and 17 minutes.

It is a long slow process that takes a lot of commitment to condition a horse to be able to perform long distances at such a physically demanding pace. It is twice as hard to not go for it when  your horse wants to and you know you should wait. The biggest mistake most people make is going too fast too soon when you know you have a horse that is a winner and Thee MaCade is such a horse. He began his endurance career in 2006 and has a very impressive record for such a short time, 2006 Biltmore 50-13th place, 2006 AHA Region 12-50 mile Endurance Championship-4th place, 2007 Biltmore 50-5th place, 2007 The Great Santa Fe Trail 800 Mile Horse Race-2nd place and is qualified for the AERC and AHA National 50 Mile Endurance Championship Race to be held in Henryville, Indiana on October 18, 2008.

Susan & John Thompson owners of Thompson Training Center LLC in Sweetwater, TN originally broke Thee MaCade for the Roberts for the race track. After a few months of training we decided Thee MaCade's heart was not in track racing, so he returned to Thompson Training Center and Susan began to retrain and has been campaigning Thee MaCade for the Roberts in endurance.

Check out the winning photos of the race at www.thompsontrainingcenter.com

STRAIGHT EGYPTIAN WINS PUERTO RICAN HORSE OF THE YEAR
The Straight Egyptian has another stellar ambassador! The 5-year-old gelding Al-Bashir MD (Thee Infidel x La Jolla Negro x Thee Desperado) who was just awarded the 2007 Puerto Rican Horse of the Year award for owner Maritza Ortiz of Naranjito, Puerto Rico. Ortiz purchased Al-Bashir as an untried sport horse prospect from Paradise Arabians in Dalton, GA in 2005, and he has since handily beat athletically-bred Warmbloods and Thoroughbreds in show jumping competitions across the island. Congratulations from Paradise Arabians to his breeders, Bill and Gena Barron, his proud owner, Maritza Ortiz, and to Al-Bashir himself!
